We’ll KDE4 has finally been released and is quite beautiful, however if you are an ubuntu user like myself, the packages haven’t made it to the main line repository yet.  However you can get the packages through the ppa (personal package archive).  The following are instructions on how to install KDE4 on Ubuntu 7.10 through the ppa.

 Installing KDE4 on Gutsy

First you will need to add the ppa archives to your sources.list file

sudo vi /etc/apt/sources.list

You will want to append the following lines to your sources.list file

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-members-kde4/ubuntu gutsy main

You will then need to update your source list

sudo apt-get update

You can then install KDE4-CORE

sudo apt-get install kde4-core

If you have any problems with dependencies you can remove them by issueing the following command.

sudo aptitude remove kdelibs5 kde4base-data kde4libs-data

You can now run KDE4 by selecting it from your login manager. Have Fun!
